Total synthesis of biologically active natural products

Challenging the limits of chemical synthesis "Total Synthesis"

There have been remarkable advances in organic synthetic chemistry, and many excellent reactions have been established in terms of simple comparisons of chemical yields and stereoselectivity. However, synthesizing natural products with complex structures and many functional groups remains challenging. Currently, there is no guarantee of even the minimum supply necessary to elucidate biological activity, let alone for practical application as pharmaceuticals. Synthesizing such compounds in the required quantities necessitates developing innovative, practical synthetic methods based on a deep understanding of the target molecules and designing efficient, rational routes. In our laboratory, we are developing new synthetic methods to efficiently produce complex, biologically active natural products, as well as styding total synthesis based on these methods.
