Akai Laboratory
Neurons in the mammalian brain compute using the movement of ions and chemical reactions in a sophisticated manner with surprisingly low energy consumption. We seek to create a world in which information processing can be actualized by the functions of organic and nano-materials, in collaboration with emerging fields in information science and physical chemistry.
Our laboratory focuses on the chemical reactions of various molecules on solid surfaces and in nano-sized devices and aims to develop and discover new molecular functions.
We aim to elucidate the fundamental reaction mechanisms and physical properties of molecular functions by utilizing surface analysis methods such as scanning probe microscopy and surface spectroscopy, device fabrication using microfabrication techniques, and measurement methods for their properties. In addition, we investigate molecular functions to advance novel cross-disciplinary areas that leverage neural networks and other information processing techniques.
