Announcement:

The Institute for Polymer Research (formerly the Institute for Textile Research) was established on the Nakanoshima campus of the Osaka University in 1934, and the research activity at the Institute led to establish the Department of Macromolecular Science (formerly the Department of Polymer Science) in 1959 in the Faculty of Science, Osaka University. Now, this department is one of the world-wide leading research centers in macromolecular science. This year is the 75th anniversary of the Institute for Polymer Research as well as the 50th anniversary of the Department of Macromolecular Science.

To celebrate these anniversaries, the Department of Macromolecular Science at Osaka University is planning to hold a special International Symposium on "Interaction of Chemistry, Physics, and Biology in Macromolecular Science" on December 12 and 13, 2009 at Osaka University. This symposium is also the 7th Osaka University Macromolecular Symposium (OUMS'09) sponsored by the Program for Enhancing Systematic Education in Graduate Schools, "Integrated Educational Program for Biological Sciences, Macromolecular Science, and Chemistry," and the Osaka University International Exchange Program in Macromolecular Science.

Macromolecular science is an interdisciplinary science among chemistry, physics, and biology, and the interaction among scientists of the different fields is prerequisite to develop the science. However, nowadays science tends to specialize in a very narrow field, and the barrier between different fields is so high that interdisciplinary interactions are rather difficult. The main aim of the symposium OUMS'09 is to give graduate students and researchers an opportunity to interact with distinguished scientists of different fields.

We would like to cordially invite you to attend this symposium to join active discussions and give fruitful interactions among participants. We look forward to meeting you in Osaka.
