2008年2月24日より2ヶ月間，ポーランドのクラクフにあるポーランド科学アカデミー核物理研究所に滞在しました． 同研究所と当センターとは長い共同研究の歴史があり，筆者も複数の共同研究に参画してきました． 丁度，これまでの研究結果を議論する必要があると考えていたところで，大阪大学理学研究科が日本学術振興会の支援のもとに若手研究者のヨーロッパ派遣を支援する International Training Program (ITP) をスタートさせたことを知り，派遣を希望したところ採用され，今回の滞在が実現しました．
センターに滞在歴のある Massalska-Arodź 教授や Krawczyk 博士と液晶物質 5*CB の熱容量測定や中性子散乱実験の結果について議論し，滞在中にその幾つかを論文にまとめました． また，新たな共同研究として，複数のガラス転移が見られる柔粘性結晶物質の熱容量測定にも参加しました． この研究は現在も継続して行われています． この他に，研究所のセミナーにも参加し（筆者の滞在中は，わざわざ英語でセミナーを行っていただきました），発表の機会も与えていただきました．
研究活動以外では，週末の市内散策や研究所のメンバーとの交流を楽しみました． ポーランドは，この10年で大きく社会制度が変わったため，さまざまなシステムが混沌としていた印象は拭えません． しかし，そんな社会的事情とは関係なく，教員や学生を問わず多くの方々に心温まるサポートをしていただき，大変快適に過ごすことができました．
今回の派遣にあたり，尽力していただいた先生方，事務の方々，受入れていただいた滞在先の先生方に厚くお礼申し上げます．
