Research Interests

  1. 1. Photoresponsive cell culture surfaces that can freely photo-control attachment of any types of cells
  2. 2. A high-throughput workflow for sorting cells based on single-cell images and conducting gene analysis.
  3. 3. Molecular systems that chemically convert any biomolecules or cells into stimulus-responsive ones
  4. 4. Stimulus-responsive probes for selectively visualizing component molecules and cells in biological systems
  5. 5. Functional compounds and materials to facilitate the mass production of proteins and cells.

With the advancement of data science, vast amounts of information related to life systems are utilized in life sciences, healthcare, and industry. In such a background, our laboratory is conducting studies with the aim of creating new molecular systems using organic synthetic chemistry to obtain previously unattainable unknown bio-information. We focus on the development of synthetic molecules with desired functionalities, engaging in research to efficiently produce, control, and visualize targeted biomolecules and cells. Our investigations also involve unraveling new molecular mechanisms for manipulating biomolecules and cells. The developed molecular systems serve as a platform technology addressing a wide range of challenges, from medical fields such as regenerative medicine, drug discovery, diagnostics, and drug delivery, to issues in the food and environmental sectors, including bioproduction and biosensors. Collaborating with researchers both domestically and internationally, we are actively engaged in applied research.
