Research Interests

  1. Fuel Cells (PEFC, direct fuel cells, etc.)
  2. Batteries (lithium batteries, Ni-hydrogen batteries, etc.)
  3. Chemical energy (hydrogen energy, energy conversion catalysts, etc.)
  4. Material science (materiomics, chemical device technology, etc.)

At the core of our research are surface and interface sciences, based primarily on electrochemistry and catalytic chemistry. This field treats phenomena that result from interactions between solid surfaces and molecules, for example, chemical reactions, permeation, and absorption. This research works toward developing methods for the storage and release of chemical energy, which accompanies reversible transformations in materials. These technologies are indispensable for the technical deployment of compact and mobile energy sources. Most research projects are interdisciplinary collaborations with industries.
