Research areas
- Synthesis and solid-state properties of biradicaloid closed-shell molecules.
- Synthesis and solid-state properties of phenalenyl-based neutral radicals.
- Design, synthesis, and properties of novel extended π-conjugated molecules.
- Synthesis and metal coordination chemistry of poly(pyridyl)methanes.
- Development of proton and electron transfer system based on metal complexes.
- Synthesis, structural characterization, and properties of three-dimensional extended π-conjugated molecules.
π-Electrons in conjugated molecules play decisive roles in the electronic and photophysical properties of organic compounds. We study the design, synthesis, structure, and physical properties of novel extended π-conjugated systems, with particular emphasis on functional properties, such as electron transport, magnetism, supramolecular chemistry, photoswitching, and chiro-optics. Work in these areas is synthesis-driven and applies several characterization techniques from physical organic chemistry. Our chemistry is designed to pursue discovery of a new class of electronic and photonic materials, as well as to investigate fundamental scientific principles.
